Challenge / Goal

To increase the levels of walking in Ireland, especially among children, older adults, people with disabilities and people living in disadvantaged areas. To improve the quality and safety of the walking environment and infrastructure. To raise awareness and appreciation of the benefits of walking for health, wellbeing, social inclusion and environmental protection

Solution

Walk(21) Ireland adopts a multi-sectoral and participatory approach, involving various stakeholders from government, civil society, academia and the private sector. It provides guidance, training, tools and resources to support local authorities and communities in developing and implementing walking policies and plans. It also organizes events, campaigns and awards to celebrate and showcase good practices and innovations in walking.
