Challenge / Goal
The public transport system in Ireland was fragmented and inefficient, with different operators using different ticketing systems and payment methods. This created confusion and inconvenience for customers, who had to buy multiple tickets or carry exact change for each trip. It also increased the operational costs and fraud risks for the transport providers.
Solution
TFI LEAP card was introduced as a single integrated ticketing system that covers all modes of public transport in Ireland. It uses contactless smart card technology that enables fast and secure transactions. It also allows for flexible fare structures and incentives, such as capping the daily or weekly expenditure or offering free transfers within a certain time period.
