County Mayo has a population of 137,231 (2022 census) and covers an area of 5,588 km2, making it the third-largest county in Ireland by size and the 18th by population. It has a long coastline of 1,168 km along the Atlantic Ocean, with many beaches, cliffs and islands.
Mayo County Council has already prepared a digital strategy since 2015. The overall aim of the new strategy is the creation of a Smart County, through Smart Communities enhacing the demand of high-speed broadband services and to address challenges in urban and rural communities.
