The latest figures from the National Transport Authority show that public transport usage in Ireland has continued to surpass the levels recorded in 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic. The data, which covers the week ending 18 June, reveals that bus, rail and tram services carried 2.4 million passengers, an increase of 8% compared to the same week in 2019. This is the fourth consecutive week that public transport demand has exceeded pre-pandemic levels, indicating a strong recovery in mobility and economic activity. The NTA attributes the growth to the easing of restrictions, the vaccination programme and the return of schools and workplaces.
